Many Arsenal fans took to Twitter to praise goalkeeper Bernd Leno who put in an inspiring display against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup against Liverpool.
The North London club were back at Anfield after suffering a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Merseyside club on Monday. This time they made up for it in the Carabao Cup with a win courtesy of a penalty shootout.
Joe Willock scored the decisive penalty that sent the Emirates club to the quarterfinals where they will face Manchester City.
Leno had an amazing game as he kept the Premier League champions at bay with a string of impressive saves. He made many of the saves during the regulation time as the Gunners found the Reds attack a little hard to deal with.
If not for the heroics of the German, this match could have gone the other way. There were further heroics to come in the penalty shootout. The keeper saved two spot kicks from Divock Origi and Harry Wilson to give Arsenal the advantage.
Fans were quick to express their admiration and here are some of the best:
Bernd Leno. World class shot stopper. Arsenal are so lucky to have this guy. My goalkeeper. ❤

It was an important moment for the shot stopper whose place was in question at the start of the season due to the emergence of Emiliano Martinez last season. The Argentine replaced the injured Leno in July and went on to have a number of great performances.
But his departure to fellow Premier League side Aston Villa made it clear that the German was Arteta’s preferred option and based on his performance on Thursday, the keeper showed that he was worthy of it.
He is known for his shot stopping abilities and that was on full display here. Arsenal will be happy that the faith they placed in him has been repaid and the goalkeeper will want to keep this run of form going for as long as possible.
They can now turn their attention to Sunday’s game against Sheffield United. The German has been one of the Gunners’ most important players since his arrival and performances like this highlight how integral he has become to the team.
