Willock, Nketiah, Nelson: Latest update on futures of Arsenal youngsters

Eddie Nketiah

Lately, the news surrounding Arsenal has been to do with players who could arrive. But Sky Sports have updates on those that might leave.

After finishing eighth in the Premier League last season, the Gunners are left with no European football to look forward to. This will prompt some of the players to be sold as the team does not need a big squad.

As per Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports, Arsenal are ready to listen to offers for Reiss Nelson, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Joe Willock. The reporter said:

“One other line to bring you concerns Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Joe Willock & Reiss Nelson – we think Arsenal are listening to offers for all three of those players. The one player that may have a future at Arsenal though is Joe Willock.”

The other topic of discussion was to do with the future of striker Eddie Nketiah. Regarding the Englishman, Sheth added:

“There were talks over a new contract, that did not bring a resolution, so he will leave in this transfer window. We understand Bayer Leverkusen & three Premier League clubs are interested.”

Arsenal Fever View:

The news of Willock having a future with the Gunners is exciting because of how well the midfielder did on loan at Newcastle United. Having him among the midfield options will strengthen the team as he is a major goal-scoring threat.

As for Nelson and Maitland-Niles, it appears that their time in north London is coming to an end. It is particularly disappointing in the case of the latter who is not willing to play as a right-back. Preferring to be deployed as a central midfielder, Maitland-Niles joined West Bromwich Albion on a loan deal last season.

Nelson has seen opportunities to the first team blocked by more established names and with only a year left on his contract, would benefit from a move. The same can be said about Nketiah who is in a similar situation to that of the winger.

Both are at an age where they need regular game time and it may not be possible with the Emirates club. Arsenal would do well to get these players off the books quickly to raise some funds. This can then be funneled into other transfers which can improve their squad.
