Danny Welbeck made his first start in almost a year and was impressive on his comeback scoring two goals in Arsenal’s 5-0 demolition of Southampton.
The Englishman has been very unlucky with injuries since his move to the Emirates, but his performance which included two goals and one assist was pretty much the comeback many players would dream of.
He was excellent against the Saints, displaying sharpness in his movement with a subtle touch and willingness to run behind the opposition defenses. His link-up with new striker Lucas Perez was dazzling throughout the game.
The 24-year-old showed a lot of composure in front of goal, keeping his cool for both the goals. The first goal was a wonderful finish with a cute dink over the onrushing goalkeeper clipping the inside of the top cross bar.
The second goal was also a combination of his pace and calmness, as he controlled Chamberlain’s long diagonal pass with his foot and slotted past Lewis again.
Theo Walcott also scored a hat trick to make it 5-0 in favor of the North London club, Chamberlain and Lucas Perez were also excellent in spite of not getting on the score sheet.
Welbeck now provides Wenger with ample attacking options and will likely push the likes of Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez for their starting lineups.
He could yet be a key member of the squad in the second half of the season. Squad depth and rotation is crucial as the season progresses with Wenger able to keep his players fresh for longer periods.
It remains to be seen how Wenger will use Welbeck in the Premier League but it’s clear he has another quality attacking option to choose from.
Arsenal fans were buzzing on the social media with Welbeck’s comeback and here are some of the best reactions from Twitter:

Delighted to see Danny #Welbeck playing so well on his comeback. #VanGaal was mad to sell him. He should still be where he belongs. At OT.

Don't want to say the cliché, but Danny Welbeck returning is like a new signing. Same happened last year, he gives us a different option.
