Arsene Wenger has revealed that Arsenal are in talks over a possible deal to sign Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The North London club have already completed the signing of Armenian player of the year Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a swap deal which saw Alexis Sanchez swap places with him at Old Trafford.
However, more transfer news is erupting from the Emirates club regarding a stunning move for Dortmund’s striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Last week Dortmund officials have confirmed they rejected an offer from Arsenal for their star striker. But reports from multiple sources confirm that the Gunners trio comprising of CEO Ivan Gazidis, chief scout Sven Mislintat, and legal advisor Huss Fahmy have been sent to Germany to finalize the deal.
The Gunners has confirmed that a possible deal could be agreed in the next eight days which could see the 28-year-old Gabonese hitman joining the north London outfit in what is touted as a club record-breaking deal.
Assessing their chances of landing the striker, Wenger told Arsenal’s official website:
“Confident or not confident, I don’t know.”
“You never know how close you are. This is the kind of thing – he is one of the possible movements, but we have other things in mind as well. We have plenty of opportunities and the final decision is not made.
“At the moment we are not close to any deal, Aubameyang or anybody else.”
When queried on Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan linking up at Arsenal, he added:
“You look at players and what their qualities are, what they can give to the team. When they are good players, they can always play together.”
Dortmund are reportedly willing to part with Aboumeyang for £60 million while recent reports from Germany indicate that they are looking for a possible player plus cash deal which could see Arsenal star Olivier Giroud move the other way.
If this deal goes through Arsenal frontline would look drastically different with the likes of Ozil, Lacazette, Mkhitaryan, and Aubameyang playing upfront turning the Gunners attack into a double-edged sword which could pierce any defence on any given day.
With Coquelin and Walcott been shown the door as Wenger looks for a major squad revamp in order to boost the chances of a Champions League spot next season.
