It seems that new manager Unai Emery is far from finished with his transfer activity this summer.
After making two signings in the form of Stephan Lichtsteiner and Bernd Leno, he is looking to bring in more players. One of them that he has chosen to bring is the Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega.
Reports in Estadio Deportivo suggest that the manager took it upon himself to call Banega to try and convince him about joining the Gunners. Given the fact that the player has already played under Emery, it seems that this relationship gives Arsenal an edge in the deal.
The representatives of Banega have already held positive talks with Arsenal and this call may be a step in the right direction in terms of bringing the player to the Emirates. He will add an element of experience to the midfield department as this is necessary after the departures of both Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla.
Though he may not start every match, he is a useful player to have in the squad and that may be the reason why Emery is trying to bring him to the club. Banega has played for a few top European clubs so it is safe to say that he understands the pressure that will be on him every time he steps out on the pitch.
The connection between Banega and Emery is not just limited to their time at Sevilla but stretches back to when they were at Valencia. So, it is clear that the manager knows exactly what the player is capable of and how he will be able to help the team.
Though Banega will be 30 this year, the general belief is that he will still be able to do a good enough job for Arsenal. His experience could prove to be vital in helping the Gunners get back into the Champions League.
If any deal is to be completed, it may have to wait until the World Cup is over as Banega is currently with the Argentina team in Russia.
