Arsenal head coach Unai Emery has reportedly marked Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha as his prime target to reinforce the attack during this summer’s transfer window.
The north London side continue to remain within contention for the top four with the season approaching its close but they have had concerns with the limited creativity from the wider attacking positions.
As such, Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser has recently been linked with a potential move to the Emirates, but The Sun suggests that the Scotland international is no longer regarded as the prime target due to his non-homegrown status.
Instead, the north London giants are said to be focusing on Zaha, who is regarded as a homegrown player after graduating through the Palace ranks, though any move could be dependent on the club’s qualification to the Champions League.
At the moment, the Gunners can qualify for the elite competition through a top-four finish in the league or by winning the Europa League crown, and the former appears unlikely at the moment unless they receive favours from the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Zaha has proved to be a quality winger during his time at Selhurst Park and his versatility of featuring in different positions is an attribute which Emery has generally said to favour in the transfer market.
Still, the ex-Manchester United ace won’t come on the cheap with four more years remaining on his current deal and Champions League football seems a must at the moment, if the board are to enhance on their budget which has been reported to be around £40m.
Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have been the natural choices for manager Unai Emery on the wings this term, but neither of the duo has sufficiently impressed with their output in the final third of the field.
