With Unai Emery now settling in at Arsenal, fans are starting to wonder what signings he will make this summer.
PSG midfield star Verratti has been reported a want-away from the French club, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United linked in the past. Now, multiple outlets are reporting that Emery, the ex-boss at PSG, may be looking to bring Verrati to Arsenal.
Scoring 2 and creating 7 assists in 38 appearances this season, the player has been watched for several seasons by the top clubs in Europe for years now.
The 25-year-old is a regular for Italy and PSG, winning a huge number of trophies with the French giants and being well known all over the footballing world as a world-class midfielder.
Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey have been brilliant for the Gunners this season, yet both players are attracting massive amounts of interest from other clubs.
Recently Aaron Ramsey’s agent revealed the Welshman’s future may be in trouble as club delay offering a new contract.
Many fans believe that the likes of Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny are not the top talent that Arsenal need to mount a real title challenge next season.
Martin Keown believes Marco Verrati might be just the player Arsenal need. As per the Express, he said:
“To expect that Emery will transform this team into champions overnight is unrealistic,”
“Arsenal has been run Arsene Wenger’s way for 22 years and, given the sheer spending power of the Manchester clubs, the competition is fierce.”
“Emery inherits a side that can do damage in the final third but lacks a steeliness and a nastiness, particularly away from home.
“The fans want to see a team that can dig in, battle and scrap. Emery needs to bring in a player like Marco Verratti, who he managed at Paris Saint-Germain, to instill those qualities in midfield.”
The Italian international clearly is a fighter, with 11 yellow cards and two red cards including in the high profile match with Real Madrid.
Verrati is a world-class player and he will cost upwards of £50m easily. Whether Emery should spend a huge portion of his budget on the midfield where arguably Arsenal need a completely new defence is a question that must be asked.
