Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo has finally got off the mark for the Gunners by scoring the first goal in the Champions League group stage tie against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.
The 21 year old was not expected to start the game but found himself in the starting line-up after Danny Welbeck suffered a hamstring injury, but he delivered very quickly as he took just two minutes to get his name on the score sheet.
The youngster collected a pass inside the penalty area and after a piece of clever control on the back of his heel, he found some space and knocked it to Cazorla. The Spaniard returned the favour back to Sanogo and the Frenchman kept his cool to slot the ball between the legs of onrushing Roman Weidenfeller’s.
He produced an accomplished performance even after the goal and the best aspect of his play was the physicality he showed as he was able to control the long balls despite pressure from his markers. He also showed his technical ability and awareness, but it wasn’t a perfect day for the young lad as he suffered a hamstring in the final minutes and had to be replaced. Wenger also confirmed about the injury in his post match interview, but did not comment on the extent of injury.
Here are some tweets from Arsenal fans on his performance.
Alright Wenger. The banter is over, sub off Sanogo now…
