Sky Sports pundit Guillem Balague has revealed that Arsenal are ‘quite confident’ of securing the services of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before the winter transfer deadline.
The Gunners have been in discussions with their Bundesliga counterparts over the past couple of weeks, and the club have recently made a renewed approach of £50.9m which is said to involve Olivier Giroud as a makeweight.
In a report covered by The Star, Balague stressed that it is only a matter of time before both clubs agreed upon the transfer with Aubameyang no longer keen to play for the former Bundesliga champions.
There is still said to be a differential in the valuation between the sides, but the Gunners are deemed to have one hand on the Gabon international, who is content with the contractual terms on the table.
Balague said:“There’s a difference in valuation [between the clubs]. I’ve heard it’s about €10m. But Arsenal seem quite confident, or quite calm in the situation.
“Why? Because Aubameyang has told Dortmund he doesn’t want to play for them anymore. He’s happy with the kind of figures that are being mentioned as in personal terms. Arsenal feel they have the player.”
Mkhitaryan picked up the number 7 shirt on his arrival at the Emirates earlier this week, and it is widely predicted that Aubameyang will be rewarded with the number 14 jersey, previously worn by the likes of Thierry Henry and Theo Walcott.
Meanwhile, there is also talk of the club strengthening the defensive department this month with West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans tipped to join the north London side.
The Northern Irishman was earlier alleged to favour a switch to the North-West, but according to reports, the Gunners are in the front seat to pursue the former Manchester United graduate.
