Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has emerged as a surprise target for Juventus, who sealed the services of Wojciech Szczesny from the Emirates earlier this summer.
The England international sustained a hairline fracture in his leg during his loan stint at Bournemouth in April, and he has since stepped up his recovery.
Wilshere featured for 74 minutes in the 3-2 Arsenal Under 23s win over Derby County in the Premier League 2 opener which also featured Kieran Gibbs and Francis Coquelin.
Earlier this month, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger refused to give assurances over Wilshere’s future but the Englishman is still keen to fight for his future in north London.
According to TalkSPORT h/t Tuttomercatoweb, Juventus are lining up a shock approach for the 25-year-old as they seek to add a new central midfielder to their ranks.
The Serie A holders have already sold long-term Gunners target Mario Lemina to Southampton this month, and they are now eyeing a deal for Wilshere with Nemanja Matic having joined Manchester United this summer.
Sampdoria had placed a transfer offer of £6m plus add-ons for the midfielder last month, but it was deemed to be well short of the Gunners £20m asking price.
Wilshere has less than 12 months left on his present deal, and the club could do business for the player, should a club come close to their valuation.
He currently faces competition from the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny for a midfield spot while Francis Coquelin could also push him further down the pecking order.
Wilshere is expected to get a run of games with the Under 23s to prove his fitness, and the next couple of weeks may well earn him a surprise move to the Serie A with Juventus seemingly keen in his services.
