Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has responded to reports stating that Sanchez has been offered a huge contract to a move to the Chinese Super League.
The reports in the Mirror, earlier yesterday claimed that the Chilean forward has been approached by Chinese clubs and a whopping £400,000-per-week deal has been offered.
It further stated that the agents from the Chinese Super League are trying to take advantage of the forward’s negotiations with Arsenal over new terms, as his current deal expires in 2018.
The 27-year-old earns £130,000 per week at Arsenal as per Mirror, and the Gunners are reportedly ready to offer a deal worth more than £200,000 per week for their talisman, although it is nowhere near the wages he is reportedly being offered by Chinese outfits.
However, Wenger has dismissed the speculation claiming that it’s unlikely the forward would want to leave England for China. Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, he said:
I believe it, yes, why not? But why should you go to China when you’re playing in England today?
[Ozil and Sanchez] They have 18 months left on their contracts and they are completely committed to doing well as long as they are here.
Beyond that, we’ll try to extend their contracts but I cannot make that the subject in every press conference because it’s a normal part of every renewal when you renegotiate.
The Chilean, who has shown just how transformative a figure he can be up front for his club this season as the Gunners relentless centre-forward. What was once seen as a failed tactical experiment from Wenger has since become the key to getting the best out of the team.
Sanchez has been brilliant this season and has played most of the games as a striker netting 11 Premier League goals and providing four assists so far this season in just 14 appearances, per WhoScored.com.
He is a player who will be hunting for titles, but so far has claimed just one FA Cup with the North London club. However, if he keeps up his current form Arsenal should mount a genuine challenge for the Premier League this season.
It is unlikely he would want to remove himself from the limelight of European football to move to China. The prospects are good for Arsenal at the moment, so they should do everything they can to keep him at the club beyond 2018.
