Sanchez has stated that the ball is Arsenal’s court regarding a contract extension and has insisted he is “very happy” at the Emirates Stadium, as per Sky Sports.
The Chilean international has just 18 months to run on his current term, and his scintillating form so far this season has triggered some concerns about a possible departure.
Earlier in the week, reports from Daily Mail stated that negotiations between the club and the player remain at an impasse after the North London club’s latest offer of £9.3 million a year, has reportedly been rejected by Sanchez, who is holding out for a £1 million a month deal.
Speaking with Sky Sports‘ Geoff Shreeves ahead of the North London club’s clash with Manchester City on Sunday, Sanchez opened up as to why he’s not agreed an extension yet. He said:
It really doesn’t depend on me – if they want to show confidence in me. I’m very happy at the club. I love all the staff. I’m very grateful for everybody here.
It depends on Arsenal.
I enjoy the relationship with the fans. I want to achieve more for them. I want to win the Premier League and the Champions League.
Paul Pogba is the highest paid soccer player in England at £290k per week(as per Daily Mail). The highest paid Arsenal player is Ozil at a ‘measly’ £140k(per Daily Star).
Arsenal needs to dig deeper into the goodies bag and offer its best players ‘decent’ wages. The seeming reluctance to pay world class wages, inspite of the clubs very healthy bank balance is a mystery to many fans
By not paying competitive wages, Arsenal is refusing to act its size. It wants to compete with the Barcelona’s of this world and yet pay poverty wages. That will make retention of key personnel such as Sanchez an impossibility, especially with Chinese league throwing obscene amounts at world class talent like confetti.
If a player deserves it, pay him. In any case we will pay, as we have done in the past ten trophy-less seasons.
