Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez has claimed that he feels sad and upset, when Arsene Wenger leaves him out of the starting line-up.
The Chilean superstar has been in wonderful form this season, and is already the Gunners top scorer this season with eight goals and seven assists.
The 27-year-old has already made 15 appearances for the North London club in all competitions this season and has prospered playing upfront in the absence of Olivier Giroud.
Sanchez has revealed that he is always desperate to play every minute of every game and admits that he doesn’t like Wenger’s pleas to rest. Speaking to ESPN Brasil, he said:
The truth is that football here delights me. To go and go back, to attack, defend, attack, defend. We like it and it’s also good to watch.
He told me to rest, but I don’t like to rest. Neither in the matches. I don’t like to be out, I get upset, I go home sad, because I train to play, I rest to play.
It’s my job and I do everything to perform at 100%.
The fitness of the Chilean most certainly occupies the mind of Wenger. He has a definite tendency to push his body to its limits, regardless of whether it can handle the physical demands.
It is therefore down to Wenger to limit his game time, rest him whenever needed, and keep him fit for the whole season. Sanchez is a great personality to have and is one of the rare players in this generation, who tend to give their best every single game without bothering about the consequences.
The change in position has also proved to be a blessing in disguise for Wenger, as fielding the Chilean upfront has somewhat reduced his work load which spends on the defensive aspects on the game.
While keeping your players happy is important. Keeping them fit is more important, and Wenger will need to continue to sadden Sanchez for the better of the club this coming season.
