Arsenal and Manchester City are weighing up a sensational swap deal involving their South American superstars Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero, according to reports Daily Star.
With the ongoing contract issue of Sanchez and with Aguero being pushed down the pecking order by Gabriel Jesus who joined City in January 2017, this shock swap deal might actually happen.
Sanchez now has only 1-year left on his contract with the club and hasn’t shown any signs of signing a new contract. With clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich reportedly showing a hell lot of interest in luring him with luxurious contracts this summer it would be very difficult for Arsene Wenger to keep hold of him.
The 28-year old Chilean forward joined the Gunners in July 2014 from Barcelona for a reported fee of £32m. In 2 out of the 3 seasons since joining, he has been the club’s leading goal scorer. Sanchez has won 2 FA Cup titles (2015 & 2017) and 2 Community Shields (2014 & 2015) with the North London club and above all, he has had an illustrious International career with the Chile national football team.
On the other hand, 29-year old Argentine striker Aguero joined the Etihad club in July 2011 from another Spanish giant Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of £38m and is already the club’s second-highest goalscorer of all time only 8 behind club legend Eric Brook.
Aguero has 2 more years in his latest contract with the Etihad club. But he has failed to impress new manager Pep who in April stated the Argentine forward had found it hard to adapt to his football philosophy. Thus Guardiola favored Jesus over Aguero for a significant time until the Brazilian’s foot injury in April.
Interestingly Aguero is exactly 200 days older and just an inch & a half taller than Sanchez and above all both of them share somewhat similar traits. Moreover the North London club in desperate need of a world class striker in order to mount any challenge for the PL title in the 2017/18 season which is also Wenger’s must-win season.
And on the contrary Pep’s fondness of Sanchez since his time as Barcelona manager has motivated him to sign the Chilean in order to prove his worth in the PL after a disappointing trophyless first season at England.
Hence this reported swap deal might actually work out positively for both these Premier League title aspirants. Only time will tell if these rumors have any chance of materializing in the near future.
