As per a report from Belgian publication La Derniere Heure, Albert Sambi Lokonga has passed a medical ahead of his move to Arsenal.
The 21-year-old is set to become the north London club’s second signing of the summer after Nuno Tavares. These are promising signs as it shows that the club are targeting young players with a lot of potential.
According to the report, Lokonga had his Arsenal medical in the Netherlands where his current club Anderlecht resides. This was done so as to not clash with the quarantine protocols used in England.
The report also states that an official announcement from the north Londoners could be coming in a matter of hours. The Gunners have paid an upfront fee of £14.95m but there will be further add-ons.
It is expected that the midfielder will join his new teammates in Scotland where the club are heading for a pre-season tour. He will also be joined by Tavares which is exciting news for the fans as they get to see their two new signings in action.
Arsenal Fever View
The Gunners have done well to secure the transfers of two highly-rated talents to add more depth to the squad. This was more obvious in the Tavares signing as the club needed a backup for Kieran Tierney.
And with the addition of Lokonga, the club are strengthening their central midfield options. As for the 21-year-old, his playing style is similar to that of Thomas Partey, which is great news for the manager.
Mikel Arteta will be excited to use the Belgian as he can now afford to rest Partey when required, which would only help the Ghanaian. The transfer window is shaping up nicely so far and we could see more activity from the north Londoners.
Arsenal needed to be active in the summer and it is good to see them target the right kind of players. Lokonga will bring a lot of energy and technical brilliance to the Gunners midfield and the thought of the midfielder and Tavares developing at the Emirates promises great things.
