The North London club may have scaled the test of November by the edge of their teeth but February isn’t looking to follow suit and break from the norm.
Watford tuned in the frequency but Chelsea clearly amplified the reality. Taking a look at the Premier league table as at today, one can be faintly hopeful of a good ending to the season as an Arsenal fan.
Doesn’t make for a good read though when defending Arsenal in a conversation with any rival fans but there is still an opportunity to achieve great things with this squad this season.
Our current crop of attackers are certainly an asset when strength and depth of a squad is considered. Theo Walcott may have been hapless in the Chelsea game but he has proved to be an asset to the team on several occasions this season. His tally speaks volumes to that effect.
The return of Danny Welbeck to fitness and match sharpness is another powerful addition to the side. He did more in the attack when he came on in 15mins than anyone up front during the same Chelsea game.
Having him available to start some games soon will drastically mitigate our almost certain implosion at the current rate we are playing. Lucas Perez is as deadly as any fan can hope for in front of goal and his first team chances should increase as the curtains drop on the season.
He is a player who is rated very highly and there is optimism about his ability to become sensational for the Gunners.
Olivier Giroud is another player who brings something special along from the bench. Not saying he isn’t worth being a starter but rather, he is better suited as a game changer for the team.
Time after time, he has come on irrespective of the opposition and scored goals from the bench. Hopefully he can see the half full side of things rather than get jaded over not starting matches.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is one player I almost left out of this group as I believe he is better suited in the midfield than on the flanks. His speed and crosses, however, make him a likely candidate to join this list.
He has a propensity for switching off and losing the ball at critical times. That said, he is definitely worth a watch when he is tuned in. Alex Iwobi makes the list, as the young Nigerian continues to impress with his displays.
Despite his skill set, it would be interesting to see him in the no 10 position rather than flanking out wide. There are games where we need a 10 that is required to prey on the opposition and it is at such times his style is more beneficial to the team than Mesut Özil’s.
Finally, a player who works tirelessly on and off the ball with a clear sign of direction, discipline, and directness, no one fits the bill like Alexis Sanchez. With 15 goals to his name and 8 assists in the Premier league alone, he is certainly our biggest asset. Despite the dragging contract talks, on the pitch, he strives to give everything like it is his last.
According to the report on Arsenal’s official website, Wenger shares in our plight as he admits it was difficult watching the Chelsea game.
Here are a few quotes from it:
“We didn’t create enough,” the boss said. “We lacked a little bit of what makes our game efficient in the final third. We didn’t look really dangerous enough and that was difficult to watch from upstairs”
Perhaps, this reality may soothe the hearts of fans who aren’t sure if he (Wenger) is remotely concerned by our current state of affairs. Chelsea will need to pull an Arsenal to lose the title in my opinion.
Till the next thought. . . . .
