Fabrizio Romano has claimed that one of the priorities for Arsenal this summer would be to secure the long-term future of Bukayo Saka by finalising on a new contract.
The 20-year-old, who rose through the ranks of Arsenal’s academy, played an instrumental role in the club’s campaign last season, featuring in 36 out of 38 league games. He scored seven goals and notched up 11 assists in the process.
Saka has emerged as one of the first names on the teamsheet in recent years. He has also secured 18 caps for the England national team. His current contract does not expire until 2024, but the Gunners have already begun talks to tie his future down at the Emirates.
The Englishman’s sensational form on the pitch has caught the eyes of several top clubs in the country. Some reports have surfaced suggesting that Manchester City and Liverpool are monitoring his contractual situation.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano Arsenal is the player’s priority. He has revealed that talks have been going on between the club and Saka’s camp since February. He is happy with the project and final negotiations are in progress. The journalist told CaughtOffside:
“The talks between Arsenal and Bukayo Saka’s camp have been going on since February. Arsenal consider Saka a key player and think his contract extension is like a new signing, it is a priority for this summer.”
“The top English clubs have been monitoring the situation for some time but the good news for Gunners supporters is that Arsenal is the player’s priority: Saka loves the club and there is a negotiation in progress.”
Arsenal Fever view:
The 21-year-old is one of the best in business in England right now. And unsurprisingly, he is on the transfer radar of other clubs. Securing his signature would be Arsenal’s most significant piece of business this transfer window.
Saka was in the heart of the Gunners’ attack last season and has single-handedly helped them clinch crucial victories. He is a local boy who is loved by the fans and knows what it means to wear the famous red and white shirt, so it is just a matter of time before he pens down a contract extension.
Meanwhile, the north Londoners have been busy in the transfer market. They have bolstered their squad with signings such as Fabio Viera and Gabriel Jesus.
