Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas has been linked with a potential move to Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal at the end of the season.
The Costa Rican goalkeeper is being eyed as a possible replacement for Petr Cech, who has been inconsistent with his performances over the course of the current season.
According to Don Balon, the 31-year-old is open to a fresh challenge away from the Bernabeu in the summer with Los Blancos supposedly on the trail for a replacement.
It is added that the Costa Rican prefers the ‘new project’ with the Gunners, and he is being seen as a successor to Cech for the number one position.
Navas has been a credible performance for Los Blancos over the years, but the Gunners would rather prefer a younger replacement, who can feature for the long-term.
Atletico’s Jan Oblak and Bayer Leverkusen’s Bernd Leno are some of the other shot-stoppers linked with the club of late, and the latter may be a viable option, owing to the £22m release clause in his contract.
Unlike other Spanish sources, Don Balon tend to be the least reliable and they somehow manage to link Karim Benzema to Arsenal in every transfer window.
Hence, the Gunners’ pursuit in Navas may not taken seriously, but it will be interesting to see whether there are any further links with the player, who is currently in the wrong side of 30.
Arsenal return to Premier League duties this weekend with a game against Stoke City before hosting CSKA Moscow in midweek in the first-leg of the Europa League quarter-final.
