Real Madrid have reportedly set a €50 million price tag on Martín Odegaard who is tempted by a return to Arsenal as per the report in Spanish outlet ABC.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a productive loan stint with the north London club in the second half of last season. After struggling to break into the Los Blancos’ first eleven under Zinedine Zidane last season, the midfielder was sent out on loan.
The midfielder made quite an impact in the Premier League under Mikel Arteta, scoring one goal and notching up two assists in 14 league appearances.
According to the report in ABC, Carlo Ancelotti wants to keep the Norwegian at his disposal, given Luka Modric is already in his late 30’s. However, the Italian boss didn’t give any assurance to the youngster about the game time.
The report further claims that the midfielder is fearful of missing out on regular first-team action as it will be hard for Odegaard to break into the squad by surpassing the likes of Kroos, Casemiro and Modric. Therefore, the 22-year-old has started to doubt his future at the Spanish capital and is tempted by the prospect of regular first-team action at the Emirates Stadium.
Despite Real Madrid’s eagerness to keep their youngster at the Santiago Bernabeu, they have given the midfielder freedom to choose his future. If the Norwegian decides to leave then Arsenal will have to pay around €50 million.
Arsenal Fever View:
Martin Odegaard will be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal this summer. The midfielder has showcased his talent in the Premier League last season and could make a menace at the Emirates Stadium for years to come.
The midfielder’s technical ability and passing efficiency will be perfect for Arteta’s style of play. The 22-year-old can create chances from midfield which the Gunners were lacking last season. He is well known for his defence-splitting passes and the youngster can also deliver excellent crosses from set-pieces.
Odegaard and Emile Smith Rowe will take care of the creative midfield role at the north London club for at least the next decade. The Norwegian’s acquisition will excite the forward players as they will get more service from the deep.
After back-to-back disappointing seasons under Arteta, the north Londoners will be hoping to see progression next season and buying top-class players like Odegaard will be a sign of intent from Arsenal. Having already secured three signings this summer, the Norwegian will be another exciting arrival.
