Marco Asensio appears to have become Arsenal’s latest transfer target, and he has requested Real Madrid to consider the possibility of a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu amidst interest from the Gunners.
The 21-year-old is one of the highly rated youngsters in European football. He moved to Real Madrid in the summer of 2015 for around €3.5 million.
Just like many of the youngsters at Real Madrid, the 21-year-old has been unable to get regular first-team football. Last season, he featured in 23 La Liga matches but only 11 were from the start. Asensio managed to return with figures of three goals and two assists.
Incredibly, Asensio has a release clause of £72 million in his contract. Spanish tabloid DiarioGol claims that Arsene Wenger is very keen on the player and he is prepared to pay the release clause.
However, as the club gets nervous about the future of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, there is a good chance that the Gunners will be interested in bringing a new attacking talent in the midfield.
The report further claims that the player is not hell bent on a transfer but feels he is due an improved contract at the Spanish club.
Even if the player decides to join Arsenal, one of the few issues may come with regard to Asensio’s contract demands. The midfielder is reportedly requesting for around £5.5 million each year.
Real Madrid also don’t need to give into the transfer demands of the player, as he still has a contract with the club until June 2022.
The Spanish club are overflowing with attacking midfielders with the likes of Isco, Toni Kroos, and Luka Modric ahead of him in the pecking order.
