Arsenal sit at the bottom of the Group F, amassing 0 points from an available 6, having lost back to back games against Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos, let that sink in for a moment. It was an abysmal performance from the gunners on a night when they desperately needed a victory to keep alive any hopes of qualifying from the group stage.
The away team’s defence frustrated the Walcott-led attack all night long, and despite looking very dangerous on the counter, the Gunners would be very disappointed to not have taken any points from this fixture. It’s time to dust off and get ready for the crucial fixture coming up against Manchester United at home. Here are my player ratings:
Ospina: 4.5
At fault for the goal which gave Olympiacos the lead in the match for the second time. A silly goal to concede, taking into account how compact the away team were, not letting Arsenal even a sniff at goal.
Gibbs: 6
Could’ve done better on the goal which made it 3-2, hardly a minute after a hard earned equalizer from Sanchez.
Koscielny: 6
Had to be replaced by Mertesacker after he developed a hamstring problem. Hopefully it’s nothing serious. Did well while he was on.
Gabriel: 6
Seemed a little bit nervy for me on some occasions.
Bellerin: 5.5
Looked too eager to get involved in the forward play. Needs to be more calm when in the final third.
Cazorla: 6.5
Tried his best to get Arsenal back into the game. Not his night.
Coquelin: 6.5
Most gooners would be glad to have the policeman back in the squad, especially just in time for the crucial home game vs Utd.
Özil: 6
Had a game to forget. Lost the possession of the ball on too many occasions. Put in all of his effort to his credit.
Sanchez: 7
Had a hand in both the Arsenal goals, playing Walcott through for the first and heading in the second. Will be gutted to see the team lose, after having earned the equalizer after so much effort.
Ox: 6.5
Unlucky to have had a had in the first goal of the match with an unlucky deflection. What’s worrying me is that he’s failing to deliver in the final third.
Walcott: 7
Returned the favour to Sanchez by giving him a lovely assist. Like Sanchez, scored one and assisted one on the night. Although, he’d be feeling that he should have done better.
Mertesacker: 6
Had a shot saved by the keeper. Should have done better on the 3rd goal.
Ramsey: 6.5
Arsenal’s attacking play came alive after he was brought on for Coquelin. He just looks so good playing through those central areas.
Campbell: n/a
Was Wenger’s last throw of the dice when he was brought on for Bellerin.
