Arsenal are in the middle of a run of form that is their worst in decades as they have gone winless in eight games and the sacking of Unai Emery hasn’t brought a change in the club’s fortunes.
To add to their misery, it appears that captain and top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wants to leave the club in search of silverware, according to reports in Mirror.
The report states that the Gabonese forward is willing to move away from the Emirates after pulling out of contract talks over an extension. The striker wants to move to a club where he will be challenging for trophies on a regular basis.
The forward has been one of the highlights of the club ever since he made his move in January of 2018. He is also said to be thinking of his age(as he turns 31 in June) and that is playing a part in his decision.
If he decides to leave, it would be best for the Gunners to get rid of him as soon as possible. If they let him enter the last year of his contract without an extension, they will have to let go of him for free.
The Gunners have already been in the same situation with regards to players such as Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey. Due to the fact that they could not get them signed to an extension, they had let them go for nothing but at least in the case of Sanchez, they got Henrikh Mkhitaryan in return.
Aubameyang has been in tremendous form for Arsenal as he has gone on to notch 53 goals in just 83 games. This phenomenal scoring record was highlighted by the fact that he was the joint winner of the Premier League Golden Boot last season.
He was also recently made the captain of the club and that shows just how important a member he has become for the North London side. Letting a player like Aubameyang go will be difficult but it won’t be impossible to replace him.
If they get a huge fee for the Gabonese forward, they can reinvest that money to reinforce other areas of the squad. The only thing the board should keep in mind is that they should act quickly and decisively to safeguard the interests of the club
