Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has revealed a worrying update on his ankle injury after posting a picture of his foot in a protective boot.
The Egyptian suffered the injury during the Gunners FA Cup win over Sutton United and was initially able to carry on but was eventually replaced by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the break. However, it seems the midfielder will be out of action for a considerable amount of time.
The 24-year-old has been a constant feature for the North London club making 21 appearances this term, missing seven games due to National team commitments with Egypt.
Wenger in his post-match press conference didn’t give too much away, expect for the fact that they were awaiting the scan results before judging the seriousness of the injury.
Reports in midweek then suggested that Elneny was facing at least three weeks on the sidelines but this hasn’t been verified as Arsene didn’t hold a press conference today.
However, the 24-year-old’s update on social media has sparked fears he could be out for even longer as Elneny took to Twitter this afternoon to post a photo of his left ankle in a protective boot.

It’s still not known how long Elneny will be out for but this isn’t an encouraging sign and the last thing we need is to lose him for a prolonged period as our options in midfield are limited.
Aaron Ramsey is still out with a calf injury while Santi Cazorla has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing another operation on his ankle.
The defensive midfielder is likely to miss Premier League games against Liverpool and Leicester along with Bayern Munich’s visit to the Emirates in the Champions League and also the FA Cup quarter-finals against Lincoln City.
The Gunners are adequately covered in defensive midfield with Coquelin and Xhaka still available, but Wenger wouldn’t be too confident as the duo have been struggling over the past month or so.
Arsenal also have Chamberlain to fill-in when needed, but such a move would seriously jeopardize the defense which is already brittle. Elneny hasn’t featured much this season but has been instrumental when called upon, majorly in Xhaka’s absence.
