Oleksandr Zinchenko is due to have his medical this week in USA to finalize his transfer move from Manchester City, according to the Standard.
The 25-year-old has enjoyed a successful spell with Manchester City, being part of the squad that won four Premier League titles. He has amassed over 125 appearances for the club in all competitions.
As per the Standard, Man City will initially receive £30m and a further £2m in add-ons. The Ukrainian international has agreed on personal terms to a contract until 2026 at the Emirates stadium.
Zinchenko is currently part of City’s pre-season tour in USA, and the Gunners are working out the logistics to complete his medical there.
The north Londoners are also on tour in the US. Usually, new signings undergo medical tests in the UK before joining the squad. However, since City are also in the country there is a possibility of the Ukrainian undergoing his tests there instead.
Arsenal Fever View:
Zinchenko is set to become Arsenal’s fifth signing of the season, taking their transfer spending well over the £100m mark. He will join his former City team-mate, Gabriel Jesus, at the Emirates.
The 25-year-old is a reliable squad player who would prove to be an excellent addition to the squad. He was deployed by Pep Guardiola at the left-back position, which isn’t his preferred spot, and the fact that he performed really well is evidence of the Ukrainian’s versatility.
The north Londoners have been looking to bolster their midfield options this summer, and it seems like Zinchenko could be the perfect solution. He can play a defensive role on the left side of the midfield and also provide width from the flanks.
Kieran Tierney has had injury problems during his time in north London. Nuno Tavares has struggled to provide quality cover for the Scotsman. The City star can cover and compete with Tierney at left-back to elevate each other’s game.
Zinchenko’s experience, energy, and tenacity would be priceless to the Gunners’ pursuit of Champions League football. This signing could be one of the final pieces of business that complete the massive rebuild of the club.
