Erkut Sogut, the agent of Mesut Ozil has confirmed to Tuttomercatoweb that many clubs have shown interest in signing the German playmaker.
The 32-year-old has not found many opportunities this season and has been left out of the squad by Mikel Arteta. His contract is set to end in the summer of 2021 and with the January transfer window fast approaching, his future is up in the air.
It seems unlikely that the playmaker will sign a new deal, meaning that he is free to reach an agreement with other clubs from the first of January. Despite interest from elsewhere, Sokut revealed that his client remains loyal to the Gunners.
He further added that the playmaker is willing to honor his contract with the Emirates club. Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, he said:
“Even one day is a long time in football, you never know. Of course, there are many clubs interested in catching him.
“This has never changed but his willingness to honour his contract and play hasn’t changed either. He’s a man of his word, loyal, and loyalty is hard to find in these times.”
If the German does not play again until the end of his current contract, it would be a sad end to a career that promised so much. His deadline day arrival in the summer of 2013 was seen by fans as a signing that could propel them back to the top but that dream remained unfulfilled.
And having not played a single minute of football since March of this year, the midfielder would be better served elsewhere. The upcoming transfer window is a good chance for him to make a move that can restart his career.
Ozil has had a successful time at the Emirates but it ultimately will be looked upon as a spell that could have and should have delivered more. It doesn’t seem that he will play under Arteta again despite the Gunners struggling big time in the Premier League.
Arsenal are contracted to pay the German £350,000-a-week until his deal his up. Once he is off the books, it will open up funds to bring in other players. The North London club have had the playmaker pop up with some important contributions over the years and fans will want to remember the good times.
