Sky Sports reporter Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Arsenal are close to wrapping up the signing of Lucas Torreira from Serie A side Sampdoria.
The Gunners have expressed a keen interest in the Uruguay since the start of June and it now appears that the deal is nearing its completion with a medical scheduled.
As per a tweet from Romano, Torreira is expected to have a medical procedure with the Gunners in the near future despite him being on World Cup duty in Russia.

Meanwhile, Romano also revealed that a deal for Sokratis Papastathopoulos should be announced in the coming days after the club finalised a £16m sum for his services.
New Gunners boss Unai Emery has shown a keen interest in completing the club’s transfer business ahead of pre-season and so far, things appear to be going up to plan.
Stephan Lichtsteiner and Bernd Leno have already been announced as the club’s first two signings and there is a strong possibility that Sokratis and Torreira will join the club at the start of next month.
Despite this, Emery appears still keen on bolstering the defensive side of the game and there is said to be concrete interest in signing Freiburg’s Caglar Soyuncu.
Aside from the Turk, the club have also been linked with Ever Banega and Hector Herrera to bolster the centre of the park, though a formal approach has yet to be lodged for either midfielder.
Arsenal players are due to report for pre-season at the beginning of July and the next couple of weeks could give an indication whether they are any exits to accompany the arrivals.
