Arsenal fans took no time in jumping down to troll Jamie Vardy after fellow Leicester star Riyad Mahrez got linked to Arsenal, as said by Metro.
Jamie Vardy, whose release clause was activated by Arsenal, chose to stay at Leicester with a pay-hike as a part of a new contract. He clearly perceived that his case would be helped by the other stars Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante not leaving. But whatever has happened is anything but that.
Leicester fans have been paranoid about the exodus ever since they won the title. What they feared has alas, come true, or has for the most part, come true.
Earlier this week, N’Golo Kante sacrificed Champions League football to join 2014-15 champions Chelsea, exercising the potential of working under Antonio Conte and earning a lot more than what he did earn at Leicester. £32m was the price.
However, that is incomparable to the price that Leicester are having to pay, in terms of losing their star players, as a consequence of winning their title and a lack of financial strength to compete with the other English superpowers.
Jamie Vardy certainly did not want this to happen. Considering that his release clause was activated, the final decision to move eventually came down to him. He preferred the safe option of staying.
He clearly did not want to risk facing the wrath of his fans. He stayed with the hope that his fellow star players would stay, thereby helping in putting up a decent title defense.
Arsenal’s issues up front meant that Jamie Vardy would have been an undoubted first choice striker had he joined.
He would have been an assured starter, and his release clause was in actual fact, activated, indicating that all parties would have ended up content had that transfer happened.
His decision to stay did not particularly go down well with some Arsenal fans.
Adding salt to Jamie Vardy’s wound post Kante’s departure, are the latest stories linking Riyad Mahrez to Arsenal. The Algerian winger, who won the PFA Player of the Year Award, has reportedly agreed to join Arsenal on a 42 million pounds deal. If this transfer does take place, it is presumably going to cause so much of pain to Vardy.
And Arsenal fans are willing to show no mercy whatsoever.

Signing Mahrez just to banter Vardy off will be the greatest thing this club has ever done.

Mahrez convinces Vardy to stay then joins Arsenal. Decent banter from the lad. #Mahrez #AFC

Not that I thought he suited our style. But imagine how gutted vardy would be if we signed mahrez.

Many Arsenal fans have been clearly affected after being rejected by a Vardy. Is that a good sign? Is it justified? It has been the opinion of many that Vardy made the ‘wrong’ choice by turning down Arsenal.
However, whether this sort of response to Vardy’s decision is ‘right’, is still open to debate.
