Arsenal have received a huge boost to the new campaign with midfielder Jack Wilshere back in first-team training, as per ESPN.
The England international missed the Gunners’ pre-season tour of China and Australia, but he has returned to London Colney after having recovered from a hairline fracture in his leg.
The 25-year-old spent the previous campaign on loan with Bournemouth where he managed to exhibit some of his old form, but his season was cut short by a month after he suffered a hairline fracture on his calf bone against Tottenham Hotspur.
In spite of this, it was Wilshere’s best campaign in terms of appearances (27) since the 2010/11 season where he made 35 league outings.
The £90,000-a-week will now hope to fight for a position at the heart of the midfield with Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka, Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny all ahead of him in the pecking order.
Turkish club Antalyaspor have recently confirmed an approach for the Stevenage-born star, but they have fallen well short of Wilshere’s £20m valuation.
Wilshere is not the sole player who has returned to training with the likes of Calum Chambers, Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin having shown his presence following their international exploits.
Arsenal resume their pre-season friendlies with the Emirates Cup on July 29 and 30 where they take on Benfica and Sevilla respectively. Following this, the Gunners take on Chelsea in the Community Shield on August 6 where they will seek to replicate their performance from the FA Cup final last term.
Wilshere has notched 12 goals in 159 outings for the Gunners to date, but his future looks bleak with his current deal due to expire in the summer of 2018.
