West Ham forward Dimitri Payet has suggested it would be fun to play for Arsenal but has insisted that Arsene Wenger has never made a move for him, as per RMC Sport.
The Hammers started the current campaign poorly and are sitting only four points above the relegation zone. The former Marseille midfielder is rumoured to be unsettled and anchoring for a new home away from the North London club.
The 29-year-old has also been linked back to his former club Marseille, where he spent two seasons at Marseille scoring 15 times in 78 games.
The France International joined the hammers in the summer of 2015 for a reported fee of £10.7 million from France’s second largest city’s club. He made an instant impact and was voted the Hammer of the year in his debut season at the Boleyn ground where he scored 12 goals and provided 15 assists.
Payet added that he has read the rumours about a move to Arsenal, but joked that Gunners boss Wenger hasn’t mentioned anything to him about being the missing piece in the Arsenal side. Payet has told RMC Sport:
I read that Wenger considers me the missing piece of the Arsenal’s game, but he’s never told me that!.
We conceded five or six at home against them. When you see them playing, as a technical player, you could only have fun in that team. They’re candidates for the title every year.
The midfielder penned a 5 year deal with the Hammers back in 2015 which saw him earn a club record weekly wage of £125,000 a week. The hammers are said to be keen on improving his pay packet in order to wad off potential suitors looking at pricing him away.
The Nunners are also being linked with World cup winning German and Wolfsburg midfielder Julian Draxler. The midfielder’s woes at the club are no secret.
Julian has been booed off the field by Wolfsburg fans and is less likely to play for the club again given the acrimonious relationship that now exists.
According to the latest reports in Talk Sport PSG is Draxler’s most likely destination. The French club are keen on the 23 year old and talks are reportedly underway for a January transfer for a fee in the €30 million to €40 million bracket.
Draxler is widely seen as an able replacement to Santi Carzola at Arsenal. An attacking midfielder with renowned dribbling skills and goal scoring ability, he is likely to get the nod against Oxlade Chamberlain and talented but young Alex Iwobi.
Wenger is a long time admirer of Julian Drexler but may have to release one of his many midfielders to make way for this highly regarded German talent.
