Former Arsenal star Robert Pires is not happy with the amount of money that Arsenal are planning to spend in the ongoing summer transfer window.
It is said that the club will only have a budget of around £40 million and Pires believes that this is not enough for a club of Arsenal’s stature.
The former Premier League winner was quoted as saying(as per Goal):
“I read that Arsenal have a small envelope for transfers, only £40m. My opinion is that it isn’t enough. If you want to build a good team, you need to spend a lot of money, especially in the Premier League.
“I respect Arsenal’s position and the owner, but everybody knows that if you want to win the Premier League, you need to spend a lot of money. All the top clubs want to sign great players, but if you want a great player it costs a lot of money.”
With the way the transfer market has been evolving in the recent years, it is clear that this sort of a budget is nowhere near enough to get the of players that will help the North London club challenge for the title.
With the departure of players such as Aaron Ramsey, Danny Welbeck and Petr Cech who are senior members of the first-team squad, there is a real need for the club to reinforce certain areas of the team.
Adding to this is the fact that the Gunners are not in the Champions League and that means that the amount of pulling power the club has is reduced by a significant margin. It also means that the club will not be benefited from extra funds that come from being in the Champions League.
Despite being in the Europa League for the third successive season, Arsenal are still one of the biggest clubs in the world. A club of their stature should be looking to challenge for the biggest honors in the game. Fans and everyone associated with the club will be hoping that the board is able to sort out their budget and that the Gunners will be able to sign some quality players.
