Sweden international and RB Leipzig midfielder Emil Forsberg has opened the possibility of joining a big club during this summer’s transfer window.
The 26-year-old is presently playing a key role for Sweden at the World Cup but this has not stopped him from discussing a potential exit from Leipzig.
Speaking to Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen, Forsberg confirmed that he is prepared to make the next big step and assured that Leipzig won’t restrict him from playing for his dream club.
“I’m ready for the next big step. That’s going to be very interesting. I am in dialogue with RB and always had a good relationship with the club. I have the dream of playing for the strongest clubs in the world,” he said.
Forsberg took the Bundesliga by storm during Leipzig’s debut campaign in 2016/17 and he bagged 19 assists in their runner-up finish to Bayern Munich.
However, his second season in the German top-flight did not go as planned with fitness concerns and loss of form witnessing him attain just two assists.
Despite this, the speculation over his future has refused to cease and it will be interesting to see whether Arsenal are among the contenders for his signature this summer.
The Gunners had apparently tried to pursue the Swede 12 months ago without much success but things have since changed with Henrikh Mkhitaryan adding to the competition for places.
As such, it may not be worthwhile spending a £40m plus sum based on the restricted summer budget but stranger things have happened at the club over the past six months.
Arsenal have already secured the signings of Stephan Lichtsteiner and Bernd Leno this summer and this is expected to be followed with the announcements of Sokratis and Lucas Torreira joining the club.
