After Arsenal got a crucial win over Wolves on Thursday, club legend Ian Wright commented on the performance of Alexandre Lacazette.
Getting the win was huge for the Gunners who are in the driving seat as far as the race for the top four is concerned. This victory has put them just one point behind Manchester United who are in fourth, but the Emirates club have two games in hand.
The north Londoners were on the attack for the majority of the game after conceding early. And once Nicolas Pepe had equalised, it looked like they could snatch a win. They did just that when Lacazette forced his way through the box and his shot ended up in the back of the net.
The Frenchman did not have a good game until then as Wright told Premier League Productions(via HITC):
“I thought Lacazette, in front of goal tonight, it wasn’t really happening for him. I thought he wasn’t sharp. Even with the strike to win the game, I think that was missing before it hit the goalkeeper’s arm. But maybe that’s the luck he deserved, in the end, because he has been working hard for the team.”
Arsenal Fever View:
Given the kind of matches that await the north Londoners, it was crucial that they emerged victorious. And the manner in which they did will surely give them a lot of confidence. As for the current captain, he needs to find his scoring boots.
Even though his effort at the end of the game was credited as an own goal, the fans and Mikel Arteta will be hoping that the forward can kick on from here. The France international certainly has the talent to consistently feature on the scoresheet. If he can do that on a consistent basis, it drastically improves the Gunners’ chances of finishing in the top four.
Arsenal have managed to put themselves in a good position with regards to the Champions League. There are tougher challenges that await them but this win is proof of the resilience and mental strength that the players have. Going forward, they will be hoping that Lacazette joins with a few goals of his own.
