The fact that Arsenal are looking to bolster their defense is something that is known to everyone and having done that by signing a full-back and a goalkeeper, their attention has now turned to a center back.
With one player all but signed in the form of Sokratis, the other player the club are looking at is Caglar Soyuncu who also confirmed the interest that the Gunners have in his transfer.
This is what Soyuncu had to say when asked about his future, according to Turkish outlet Gunes:
“I hope I go to Arsenal,” he said. “I really want to play in the Premier League, but everything depends on the team.
“Arsenal is an option, I want to play there, but everything is connected. Because I have a contract for three more years.
“I received bids from some of the teams in Turkey. I can’t name the teams, but I did not accept it. I do not think about playing in Turkey at the moment. I want to continue my career in Europe.”
The Turkey international revealed last month that the Gunners are interested in signing him and his representative has since hinted that £35m deal is close to completion
Soyuncu is a highly rated defender in the Bundesliga who has been under the radar of Sven Mislintat for a long time now. Bringing him to the club would certainly add some quality to a department that was quite possibly the weak link of last season.
If Arsenal want to bring him to the Emirates, they will have to act quickly as there is bound to be some form of competition for the signature of Soyuncu.
The statement that the player has made seems to confirm the indications that have come out earlier as well. From what we can see, it is clear that Soyuncu wants to come to Arsenal and it feels like the club may want that as well.
Since he is not at the World Cup, it should be easier to take care of all the formalities that are involved in a transfer. The new era under Unai Emery is already shaping up to be an exciting one and if Arsenal complement that enthusiasm with signings such as Soyuncu, it is bound to make the fans happier.
