Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko has revealed that he has no intention of staying at Newcastle United after they were relegated last season, and also issued a come and get me plea to the Gunners.
The France international looks certain to leave the St. James Park after their relegation and the Gunners were also credited with a £10 million move for the 26-year-old winger last month, as reported by the Mirror.
However, speculations of his move to the Emirates Stadium have since died down with Arsenal shifting focus to other players and his latest statements appear to be that of a remainder to Arsenal hierarchy.
Sissoko claims that he is optimistic there will be no problem with him departing, as he needs to play at the highest level to continue representing France. Speaking to Mercato, he said:
“I gave everything there for three-and-a-half years,” Sissoko told Foot Mercato. “I hope that Newcastle will be smart enough to understand that to continue my development I need to keep playing at the highest level.
“As I want to stay in the France team I cannot stay in the Championship. There will be discussions. I want to leave.”
The French midfielder also added that it was very flattering to be linked with Arsenal while also suggesting that it will be a dream to play for the North London club. He said:
“It’s very flattering [to be linked with Arsenal, it’s] one of the best European clubs.”
“I hope I will have a chance soon to play in this club or similar club. It’s a very big club in Europe. I think few people would refuse to play there.”
“Everyone knows, I have often said when I was young, my heart was Arsenal club, because there were a lot of French players that have been there as Thierry Henry, Robert Pires, Sylvain Wiltord, Patrick Vieira who was my idol.
“The beautiful Arsenal. We’ll see. I cannot tell you that I will go to Arsenal. For now, I’m focused on the team of France and the Euros.”
Arsenal have already signed Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchegladbach but reports understood that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wants more addition in the midfield. We are currently looking at the prospect of signing an attacking midfielder to add more fire to the attack.
However it seems Wenger is more inclined to sign Mkhitaryan from Dortmund thanks to the Armenians overall attacking prowess. Sissoko is definitely an interesting player, but I don’t think he is an improvement over the midfielder’s we already posses.
