Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has hit back after being left out of England’s World cup squad by revealing that he would have had a ‘real impact’ at the World Cup.
The 26-year-old has failed to make the final cut in Southgate’s squad, with the England manager claiming that the midfielder’s inconsistent performances were the reason behind his omission. As per Talk Sport, he said:
“Jack had a good spell in the lead-up to Christmas and after, but wasn’t as effective after that. I think other guys have played well and deserve their places in the squad.”
However, Wilshere responded with a series of tweets:
Think its about time I had my say…
It goes without saying that I’m naturally incredibly disappointed to have been left out of the England squad for the World Cup. I’ve felt fit, sharp and strong all season and believe I should be in the squad!— Jack Wilshere (@JackWilshere) May 17, 2018

The midfielder was called up for friendlies in March but eventually pulled out due to injury. Many believe that his omission from the final list is down to fitness concerns as against the coach’ claims about Wilshere’ below-par performance in the just concluded EPL season.
Having struggled with incessant injuries over the last few years, He experienced a career resurgence on loan at Bournemouth. Many had expected him to make his move permanent or perhaps consider a move abroad. He returned to Arsenal and had a good season without any injury concern.
What sets the diminutive midfielder apart from other midfield players of English descent is his flexibility and skill on the ball, a skill only very few midfielders of the current generation can boast of. With Michael Carrick’s retirement, he remains England’s only ball playing midfielder and many had hoped including the midfielder himself, that he would make the final cut for Russia.
Losing out to others will certainly be a bitter pill to swallow for the player who had thought he was beginning to make an impression on the gaffer. How he reacts to this latest setback will be a testament to his mental resilience and attitude as a footballer. Whether He was left out due to poor form or injury concerns is open to speculation but his midfield dynamism will be sorely missed in Russia when the first whistle is blown.
