Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has dropped a huge hint over his future after he renewed his executive box at the Emirates Stadium. The Germany international currently has a year left on his existing contract.
According to The Sun, the World Cup has decided to renew his hospitality package with the north London club which suggests that he could extend his Gunners stay beyond the summer.
Ozil who currently earns £140,000-a-week has already been offered a package of around £300,000 a week to prolong his Gunners’ career, but he is still playing hardball as he waits on suitable offers elsewhere.
Arsenal’s hierarchy recently hired Huss Fahmy, formerly of Team Sky, to speed up contract negotiations with their first-team players, and he is said to have made contact with the representative of Ozil among others.
Both Alexis Sanchez and Ozil remain key to the Gunners’ quest to end their Premier League drought, but they still face a stiff task to keep both players due to the new cost control measures.
Teams from the top-flight are allowed a wage increase of just £7m a year, and the Gunners could break the bracket, should they extend the contracts of their key pair.
As a result, the FA Cup holders are looking at the prospect of selling some of their first-team players including Olivier Giroud and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in order to adjust their wage budget this summer.
Ozil had a mixed campaign in the Arsenal shirt last term, but he managed to showcase some of his old form following the switch to the 3-4-2-1 formation.
