Arsenal have reportedly received a boost in the pursuit of one of their long-term targets in Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrien Rabiot. The France international is open to the prospect of leaving Parc des Princes during the summer transfer window.
The Gunners had acquired the services of both Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny last year, but this has not done enough to ensure stability in the heart of the midfield.
Xhaka has produced a mixed showing during his time at the Emirates with outings against Bayern Munich and fifth-tier Sutton United reflecting both sides of his gameplay.
Meanwhile, Elneny has not got much of a run in the starting lineup, but he still appears to have his critics while starting the game from the off.
According to The Star, the north London side could fancy their chances of landing Rabiot this summer after the 21-year-old admitted that he could part ways with Les Parisiens for a bigger club.
Rabiot currently has a contract in Paris until the summer of 2019, but he is still open to a fresh challenge with Real Madrid being at the top of his radar.
“I am under contract until 2019 and I do not think I am in a rush. Honestly, I am not thinking about that.” the Frenchman said.
“If there are offers from big clubs, that obviously demands that they are considered.
“Clubs like Real Madrid, they are truly great clubs but, truly, the most important thing is the present and I am concentrating on what I am doing right now, that is the best thing to do.”
The French youngster provided a solid performance in the 4-0 thumping of Barcelona in the Champions League last 16, first-leg, but it was his humiliating nutmeg on Lionel Messi which was probably the highlight moment of the clash.
Injury-plagued midfielder Santi Cazorla is most likely to leave Arsenal at the expiry of his contract this summer, and Rabiot could be the ideal replacement, provided one of Real Madrid or Barcelona don’t come forward for his services.
Francis Coquelin appears to bethe Wenger’s favourite in recent seasons, but a change in management could see the Frenchman being dropped with inconsistency a major subject in the Gunners midfield.
Rabiot, who is currently valued at £20m, has got a long run in the starting lineup this year following a time where he was a regular on the substitutes’ bench.
