Even after all the transfers that Arsenal have made this summer, it appears that their business is not over yet.
The Gunners have brought in five players and two of them happen to be midfielders. Despite this, the club is in the race to sign the Frenchman Adrien Rabiot from Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports in RMC.
The midfielder is out of contract next year and that has led to a lot of speculation about his next move. Both Arsenal and Barcelona are looking at bringing him into their squad. The reasons for him wanting to leave Paris is based on two factors.
The first reason and perhaps the most important is that new manager Thomas Tuchel does not rate him very highly. This and the fact that his salary demands are not being met, has led the €40m midfielder to look elsewhere. It is difficult to see how Arsenal will be able to get him given the spending that they have done so far.
A player like Rabiot is sure to add a lot of the quality to the squad but given the midfield options that Arsenal have, it is difficult to see where he will be playing. But, we do not know exactly how the transfer window will pan out in the remaining days.
Arsenal manager Unai Emery was asked about bringing in players and he had this to say:
‘Normally, in my career the big clubs don’t close the [door] or the moment to sign a new player. Today, we are OK. Maybe we can bring in one if there’s a very good possibility for them to help us, but the club has done a great job of signing new players and I am happy.’
Arsenal have done well to address almost all the issues that exist in the squad with the signings that they have made. Now, they will have to focus on the contract situation of Aaron Ramsey. This will play a big part in the way future transfer business is done and that may include Rabiot.
