Caglar Soyuncu is a player who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal for weeks now. Only recently turning 22, the Turkish international is worth a reported £35m and according to multiple sources, Arsenal are ready to pay that much for the player.
Seyit Mehmet Ozkan, President of Soyuncu’s former club Altinordu, has claimed that a deal was almost done.
Ozkan told the International Football Economic Forum: “Caglar Soyuncu is set to join Arsenal… Arsenal demanded his youth information from us. We’ll earn from him if he joins Arsenal. Bayern Munich wants him too, but he’s on the way to the Premier League.”
This statement comes amid conflicting reports, with Jochen Saier, director of Soyuncu’s current club Freiburg, calling the move to Arsenal “complete nonsense”. It is very possible that such a stark statement is more interested in driving up the player’s price than informing the public.
“I am very thankful now that I have had a good season,” Soyuncu told beIN Sports. “I have spoken with the club about the offers… It is still early but things will be clear in one or two weeks.”
The young talent has made it especially clear that he wants first team football wherever he goes, telling Ajansspor:
“For me, it must be a team where I can play first… We will evaluate my chances of playing… It’s best to wait. The English league is a very good league. Of course I have a goal to play in top clubs. A decision will be made in the interests of all of us.”
This clear show of interest in the English League must be seen as hopeful words for Arsenal fans who are in desperate need of a top defensive signing.
Arsenal fans should not get their hopes up too soon, if the abrupt turnaround resulting in Unai Emery’s announcement tells us anything, it is that nothing is certain until we see the club announce it.
