Arsenal’s pursuit of Lucas Torreira has been going around the news cycle for some time now and that deal seems to be done and dusted finally.
The president of Sampdoria has confirmed that the player has signed for the Gunners, according to reports in the Metro: In an interview, he said:
“Torreira has left for €30million, I bought him from Pescara when nobody believed in him. We took a gamble on him and we won, paying just €3million. The money that comes in will be used to capitalise the company.”
This is confirmation of the news that fans had gotten earlier and it proves that Arsenal are looking to be ruthless in the transfer market.
Torreira is part of the Uruguay team at the World Cup and that is the only reason that has prevented the club from announcing the deal.
His signing will be particularly useful as the Gunners midfield has had some notable departures in the recent past. Torreira and his aggressive pressing will certainly fit into the vision that Unai Emery has for the team and, he will complement the abilities of Granit Xhaka as well. And to add to this, his ability to pass into dangerous areas makes him a very interesting proposition to deal with.
When the deal is made official, Torreira will become the third player to be confirmed to join the Gunners after the signings of full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner and goalkeeper Bernd Leno. As far as fans are concerned, it is refreshing to see Arsenal behave this way in the transfer market.
For the price that he is coming at, Torreira is great value for money as his potential is very high and the fact that he is young means that he can succeed at the club for many years to come.
The fact that the player is at the World Cup is an indication of the quality that he possesses and for those who want a quick glimpse of him, be sure to check out Uruguay’s match against Saudi Arabia.
