The first signing of Unai Emery’s career at Arsenal has already come in the form of Karl Jakob Hein.
The 16-year-old is going to be joining Arsenal’s academy before signing his professional contract with the club. He is Arsenal’s first signing since Arsene Wenger’s departure and the first since Unai Emery’s arrival.
Nomme United, who play in Estonia’s fourth tier confirmed on their Official Facebook page that Hein will start with the Gunners when he turns 17 in April 2019.
The Estonian under-17 goalkeeper has apparently been persuaded to join Arsenal by his mentor Mart Poom, the ex-Arsenal keeper who is currently Estonia’s goalkeeping coach and has worked closely with the young player.
“The first year is about academic education,” Poom told Postimees Sport.
“Two years later, he will be able to play at U18 level, and then he will be in the U23s. Then it depends on him. We hope he will reach the first team. That’s definitely very difficult, but not impossible.

According to the Daily Mail, the 16-year-old had undergone several trials with clubs in the UK including Manchester United, Brighton and Southampton who were all interested in signing the young prospect.
Although this signing does not seem to be anywhere near to the first team yet, bringing in young players and developing them is a real part of Arsene Wenger’s legacy that looks to be continued here.
The North London club will also look to add to their first team as well this summer and will look to get back into the Champions League places. With Emery taking charge, we can expect some transfer movement in the coming days.
