Arsenal manager Unai Emery has admitted that an injury suffered by Real Midfielder Marco Asensio may have ended the Gunners’ chances of signing Dani Ceballos on a loan deal.
Asensio got injured during the North London club’s clash against Real Madrid and was stretchered off the field. It is suspected that the Spaniard has ruptured his ligaments and could be on the sidelines for a long time.
When Emery was asked about the injury and whether it would affect the Ceballos move, he said(as per Metro):
‘Really our target in the match was not to take injuries and they have maybe a big injury with Asensio, it’s bad news for them and also for us. I don’t know if it can change something.’
Real manager Zinedine Zidane was worried about Asensio and the duration of the injury but he did not say anything about whether the Ceballos deal would be affected by this particular injury.
If this were to be the case then it would be a real shame for Arsenal as they had the deal all but officially sealed up. The North London club have been in negotiations with Real over the loan transfer of Ceballos and getting him to the Emirates would be a really good move going forward.
Even if they do not get an option to buy the midfielder at the end of the loan deal, the club would really benefit from having such a player at the club.
Ceballos is thought of by the Gunners to be the player that could replace the outgoing Aaron Ramsey who departed on a free transfer to Juventus. And from what we have seen from the Spaniard so far, there is every indication that he could definitely be the man for the job.
Despite the injury suffered by Asensio, there does not seem to be any other indication that the move for Ceballos would be affected. Arsenal will feel confident that they have sealed the deal for the midfielder and will certainly have started making arrangements for an official announcement to be made.
Ceballos is the kind of player that will add an extra dimension to the Arsenal midfield. Fans will hope and pray that he can help propel the club back into the Champions League.
