As excitement builds around the Emirates surrounding transfers in and out as the summer transfer market swings wide open, contract negotiations lurk behind the scenes as well. One such concern for Arsenal is that of Aaron Ramsey.
Ramsey or Rambo as fans love to call him is a fantastic player on his day. Armed with a strong engine, the Welshman is capable of running through an entire game from box to box.
He is a player who can inject drive, purpose and slick movement when he is in the mood. However, he seems to easily lose focus and sometimes also lacks awareness.
As his contract winds down, let’s have another look at the player to see whether or not he deserves a contract renewal.
In the absence of a football director at the north London Club, Arsene Wenger maintains the full and absolute right of determining who gets to renew or not.
This invariably dovetails to the fact that, Aaron Ramsey will get a contract renewal as the fondness between the midfielder and the boss is evident from the game time he got last season and Ramsey’s documented comments on Arsene’s future earlier this year.
Here is a quote from that piece, According to the Mirror, Ramsey said:
Of course I want him to stay at club. He deserves this. We changed the formation and had a lot of success. Fair play to him, he changed the system. Hopefully, he’ll be there next season
The Boss as well has nothing but high praise for the young man comparing him to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard. According to Metro, Wenger said:
“He is a Frank Lampard-type player. He is getting in the box and he has a huge capacity to run. Certainly physically he has a combination of stamina, power — and his capacity to repeat high intensity is certainly the best in the league.”
“He has it all in the locker to be defensive and offensive. So that is for me a vital part of the game we want to play. We do not only want to defend, we want to defend and attack. So these kind of players are very important.’
There is very little or no doubt that he will get an extension. However fine details such as popping up to score the winner in the last FA Cup final against Chelsea from Olivier Giroud’s “cutback-cross” and the winner against Hull City in the same stage of the competition few years back, he has made for himself a strong argument to that effect.
His form has been decent last season, but the midfielder put in some great performances at the fag end of the season when he was deployed in his favourite central midfield position.
He has been through a lot with injuries but has always managed to fight his way back into the squad. Furthermore, his valiant displays for his country of origin (Wales) at the Euros from qualification to the semi-final stages is simply impressive.
When the pros and cons of extending or not are laid out, it is difficult not to agree with Arsene if/when he renews the young lad’s contract.
