Colombia international David Ospina is apparently close to securing his long-awaited move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce, Times journalist Henry Winter claims.
The 28-year-old has been restricted to regular playing time in recent seasons owing to the presence of Petr Cech, who has owned the number one role.
Ospina has featured mostly in the Cup and the European games for the Gunners, and this earned him a surprise start in the FA Cup final last weekend.
The former Nice man produced a couple of memorable saves to shut the Chelsea attack as the Gunners won their 13th FA Cup title – a new English record.
Prior to the Wembley, Winter was sharing his views on TalkSPORT where he suggested that Ospina’s move to Fenerbahce could be all but done.
“The fact is that Ospina’s leaving for Fenerbahce,” He said, via The Star. “He’s on a fast plane to Istanbul tomorrow, probably, so I find it very strange [that he started the FA Cup final].
“Petr Cech has been, along with Alexis Sanchez, has been Arsenal’s best player this season.”
The South American ace previously admitted that he would welcome a switch to Turkey, and the Gunners’ hierarchy will not block his potential exit during the summer transfer window.
Ospina, who earns a £40,000 weekly wage, has been the undisputed number one for his home nation, and a player of his calibre would be eager to earn regular playing time ahead of a potential World Cup challenge in Russia next year.
Colombia are on course to qualify for next year’s showpiece event, and Ospina will have a key role to play in their final four outings in order to assure a direct entry without having to feature in the inter-confederation playoffs.
