Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny who refused to travel with the club on their pre-season tour could finally be on his way out the club.
According to reports in the Express officials from the French club Bordeaux flew into London discuss a transfer with the North London club.
Eduardo Macia, the head of recruitment also hinted at this when he said(as per L’Equipe):
‘Laurent Koscielny? Of course, if the opportunity were there, we would love to have him come.
‘He’s a leader, a smart defender and one of the best defenders I’ve seen in my career.’
After spending almost a decade in London, the Frenchman feels that it is time for him to return to his native country. His desire to go back was so strong that he didn’t go for the pre season tour to force a move.
If the Gunners are receiving offers for the center back, they should make it a point to listen to them. There is no point in trying to keep a player who is so keen on leaving the club. And when it is someone like the captain who feels this way, there is no reason to not let them move away.
The latter part of his Arsenal career has been characterized by a never say die attitude that many have found to be inspirational. He overcame a serious injury that he suffered in the 2018 Europa League semifinals and went on to play an important role in the 2018/19 season.
It seemed like his career at the highest level was done but Koscielny showed what a fighter he is and came roaring back with a string of impressive performances. Perhaps he feels that his service to the club gives him the right to walk away when he sees fit.
But no matter the legitimacy of his feelings, the way he acted upon them could be described as being a little unprofessional especially since he is the captain.
It is in the best interests of the club and the player if they can resolve this situation as quick as possible. The Gunners need to go into the new season with a clear mindset and having this kind of a issue will not sit well with the squad. Arsenal have a decision on their hands about Koscielny and there could be a resolution very soon.
