One of Arsenal’s top talents in midfield, Aaron Ramsey is yet to sign a new long-term contract with the North London side and given his current deal runs out in less than a year, fans are starting to worry about the player’s future.
The Welshman started as the captain in the recent pre-season game against Atletico Madrid, but concerns over his future have not gone away.
Now, London rivals Chelsea are reportedly interested in purchasing the playmaker for over £35m according to reports in the Express. It further states that the North London club are ready to sell the midfielder to finance their own transfer plans.
Selling the 27-year-old move to Chelsea would be a massive blow for Arsenal fans, after the midfielder created 8 assists and scored 7 goals in the Premier League alone last season.
Unai Emery seems to want Ramsey to stay at the club, and has said this on the situation:
“The contract is one thing for the club and the player.
“Football changes every day. I think about the match today first, then training tomorrow, the match on Saturday and to continue our preparation.
“I think Aaron is an important player for us. For me, I want him to stay with us, to work with us, to give the team the big performances with his quality. I think he is going to stay here with us.”
The confidence from Emery will surely be a factor on whether Ramsey will stay at the club, but given he has been an Arsenal man since 2008, it would be a big surprise to many fans if he does leave the club.
Many believe it would be near impossible for Ramsey to leave and sign for Chelsea, and although it is a nice thought, we have seen the likes of Ashley Cole and more recently Jack Wilshere depart the club for Premier League teams after years and years at Arsenal.
The transfer to Chelsea does look unlikely, but with many other teams looking to purchase the player, Ramsey leaving the Emirates really could happen.
