Arsenal’s left-back Kieran Tierney put in an impressive display on Sunday as Scotland beat Luxembourg 1-0 away in a pre-Euro 2020 friendly.
The 24-year-old has been a fan favorite since his move to north London from Celtic. After initially struggling with injury problems, the full-back has been a consistent performer for the Gunners in recent months.
The Scotsman has cemented his place on the left flank having featured in 38 games across all competitions for the Emirates club this season.
Scotland concluded their Euro 2020 warm-up with a 1-0 win over Luxembourg. A goal from Che Adams put Scotland in front in the 27th minute and Steve Clarke’s side maintained the lead to claim the victory at the Stade Josy Barthel. The Scots will play their opening group game against Czech Republic at Hampden Park on June 14.
Kieran Tierney and Andy Robertson are two marquee players for Scotland and unfortunately for Steve Clarke, they are both natural left-backs. This has created a selection headache for the manager in the past.
In order to field both their star men, Scotland have switched to a five-man defence with Tierney at left centre-back and Robertson playing at left wing-back.
Tierney’s performance has attracted praise from fans. This is how some fans reacted on Twitter:
Tierney is the best left back on the planet, and we are winning the euros lol

Kieran Tierney is the top man in that squad, followed by Robertson. Gilmour looks like he could be a superstar but he needs to start playing more games.

The 24-year-old’s rapid growth has made Scotland’s left side formidable. Robertson, who is three years elder to him, could drop back to a defensive role in the future allowing the latter to occupy a more advanced position.
Apart from being one of the best left-backs in the league, Tierney has also impressed Arsenal fans with his leadership qualities. He is often asked to tone down his aggressive attitude in training by his teammates.
Mikel Arteta is reportedly a huge fan of his attitude and has urged the Scotsman to continue with the same level of intensity. Undoubtedly, the full-back is an indispensable player for both his club and country.
