Speaking on his YouTube channel, Premier League stalwart Ben Foster claimed that Gabriel Jesus will be a massive signing for Arsenal.
The former Watford keeper who is currently looking for a club has played against the Gunners’ new signing many times and has been impressed by what he saw.
The north Londoners have been on a signing spree this summer and have wrapped up deals in quick time. Speaking about last season and what to look forward to, Foster said:
“They (Arsenal) were struggling badly at the start of last season; it was a horrific start. It was horrible and Mikel Arteta was the favourite to get sacked. They kicked on but it was a disappointing end to the season as well. Looking at this summer, Gabriel Jesus is a massive signing, massive. I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves.”
And as for what to expect from the Gunners and the new leader of their attack, the former England international added:
“Arsenal have been crying out for that type of player and I think he’s going to do really well. I do think they’ll have a good season and win some big games against some big teams, but I think they’ll just miss out on the Champions League places.”
Arsenal Fever View:
At first glance, Foster’s prediction that Mikel Arteta and his players will once again finish outside the top four might sound a little harsh. But given how the north Londoners finished last season, it seems like a fair assessment.
The hope for those at the Emirates is that the signing of Jesus can help transform an attack that looked toothless for large parts of the 2021/22 season. Neither Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang nor Alexandre Lacazette proved to be the catalyst that could have pushed the club into the top four.
But a new season brings about a renewed sense of hope and that has been bolstered immensely by the signing of Jesus. The forward has impressed in pre-season and the hope is that he can stay fit and fire in the goals. If he can do that, it gives Arsenal a great chance to get back into the European elite.
