Aubameyang quizzed about fallout with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta

Aubameyang

Speaking to Spanish publication Sport, former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has played down about his issues with Mikel Arteta.

The Gabonese international spent four years with the Gunners and helped them win an FA Cup and a Community Shield. But after being disciplined for a breach, he was stripped off the captaincy and that eventually led to his Barcelona move.

The catalyst for his exit was the breaking down of his relationship with Mikel Arteta. When Aubameyang was asked about this, he told Sport:

“Things can happen like that. Good moments also happened with him. I have learned that you have to give your best on the grass, and many concepts in training. Also, I learned to be a captain.

“It’s hard. We both have it nailed still. But it is a finished story, I don’t want to think about the negative things that have happened. I keep all the trophies won.”

The 32-year-old has made a good start with the Catalan giants and scored a hat trick in their last game. It appears that the former Gunners captain is ready to put the troubles at London behind him and look towards succeeding at the Camp Nou.

While there is no doubt that Aubameyang was a huge success at the Emirates, it can also be stated that the forward has struggled in the last season and half. Since signing his extension in the summer of 2020, the striker didn’t seem to have the same sharpness about him.

A lot of the chances that you would expect him to put away were being missed and that hurt the north Londoners. Though this half a season was much better, the disciplinary breaches proved to be the last straw as far as Arteta was concerned.

If there is one thing the Gunners regret about this whole saga is not getting someone in to replace their former captain. And the onus is now on Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah to fire the north Londoners into the Champions League.

As for Aubameyang, he has joined a team that is filled with exciting talents and the slower pace of Spanish football could benefit the striker’s skills. Arsenal and their former talisman have moved on and are looking towards their next chapter.
