The summer months bring the best out of newspapers as transfer speculation reaches fever pitch year on year.
New Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, has been linked with a number of players ever since his appointment last week, with one of Europe’s hottest properties outside the continent’s elite clubs now being linked.
One of the main publications in Sweden, Expressen, has linked their new star with a move to North London. The report claims that Arsenal will make a £50m bid this summer to sign the midfielder.
Emil Forsberg is a wanted man, with Liverpool and a number of top European teams wanting to buy the 26-year-old from RB Leipzig as he seeks more consistent opportunities in European football.
After signing a new deal until 2022 last year, RB Leipzig are not likely to let him go for cheap with a hefty valuation of around £50 million being quoted. Especially, as they regard him and Timo Werner as their key players to challenge Bayern Munich for the title next season.
The winger, who can play on either side, has reportedly increased speculation after he expressed a desire to move from the Bundesliga team after tweeting ‘Thanks for everything’ after the final league game of the season. A small hint maybe.
The Swedish player has contributed four assists and five goals in 34 games this season, so it is likely fans will question the value of the player.
Arsenal currently posses a number of attacking midfield options, with Forsberg likely to join Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Alex Iwobi and a number of promising youngsters. So, will he join to be a bit-part player or a first team regular at someones expense?
Speculation has also linked the club with Caglar Soyuncu, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Stefan Lichtsteiner in recent days with Chief Scout Sven Mislintat planning a complete overhaul in the defensive department.
The addition of new defender is seen as a more requirement for Arsenal’s title challenge next season, with the midfield options already looking extensive.
Will the valuation of Forsberg be too much to acquire his services due to the reported £50 million transfer budget or will management allow a number of players to leave to free up money in the budget.
